The Good Catch - FAQ

What is a microplastic?

Microplastics are tiny pieces of plastic, mostly invisible to the eye. Microplastics range in size from 1 micrometre to 1000 micrometres. The mesh size is 70 micrometres which means it captures up to 93% of all microplastics.

Before Installing.

Please ensure that you thoroughly clean your washing machine (including internal filters) before installing The Good Catch. Most machines have a build up of detergents and fibers and the filter won't work if your machine is already congested. It is important to continue cleaning your machine regularly in the future too.

How to install

All instructions are on your carton. Or follow this link https://youtu.be/t8nHxXrdTso to watch our video.

Cleaning the filter

Look through the clear top and you will see if there is any build up. If so, remove the filter and clean the contents into your waste bin. Return the filter to the base, close the lid firmly and continue your washing. You can use an old toothbrush or even your finger to clean the filter.

It's important to note that the filter will not only capture microplastics but everything else that is coming through. For this reason, the filter may need to be cleaned part way through your wash. If your washing machine stops mid cycle, please clean the filter (as explained above) and the cycle should continue. If the cycle will not continue then it just needs be set at spin and drain to complete.

You may decide to only use The Good Catch when washing polyester and nylon. So for all other washes, remove the filter, close the lid and the water will flow through as normal.

Why should I use a microplastic filter?

Every time you do a load of washing, up to 700,000 microplastics enter our waterways. We consume them through our food and drinking water and scientists have found them in all parts of our bodies. The Good Catch is one easy step you can take to help stop this.

Why The Good Catch?

The Good Catch is the first of its kind globally. It stops up to 93% of microplastics, made with recycled plastic and it has a cleanable filter. We have kept it at a low price point so that we can all do our part in cleaning up our world.

Will The Good Catch work on my washing machine?

The Good Catch is compatible with all washing machine types. If you have any problems then please get in touch.

Can the filter cause my washing machine to breakdown?

No. If the filter is full and water can no longer flow then the machine will detect a blockage and stop. All washing machines are built with this safety feature. Simply clean the filter and continue your washing.

Where do I put the waste after cleaning?

Clean the contents of the filter into your waste bin. As the waste from the filter is a mix of plastics, it cannot be recycled. Hopefully this can change in the future.

Can I wash the filter to remove the waste.

No! This will send all the microplastics back into the waterways which we are trying to stop.

Can I get a replacement filter if needed.

Yes. This will be stage 2 of our launch.

Where is it made?

The Good Catch is made in Adelaide, South Australia. We use recycled plastic as much as possible and all parts are recyclable.
